Brief History
At a mere six months old, the Tyranny of Bragor is a realm in its infancy and yet one that has reshaped the power dynamic of the continent of Threa.
Sweeping down out of the Daggerpine Forest, a horde of ogres, urrok and goblins crushed the unprepared defenders of this eastern province of Dyss and quickly took the provincial capital of Otras and several outlying villages. Bragor himself spearheaded the invasion, taking Otras as his own and renaming it Kassl Bragor.
A great battle took place near the River Shamek, leading to the destruction of the Protectorate’s strongholds of Khazok-Damark and Khazok-Zhelvek and the burning of the great forest on the river’s western bank, now known as the Z’Gorel Drekniva – The Charredwood Forest – which now forms a buffer between the Tyranny and the Protectorate of Dyss.
For now the Tyranny Bragor has consolidated its position but rumours are rife that the Great Maw is not content to settle for a small number of isolated villages in the middle of nowhere and has started conscripting humans and other kin into his army, preparing for more conflict.
Overview
Until recently the region subjugated by the Great Maw and his forces was a frontier province of the Protectorate of Dyss, still relatively untamed and rugged land, inhabited by independent and hard working folk. The provincial capital of Otras lay at the mouth of the wild Springflood river, a small fortified town housing the governor and his small retinue of personal militia and border rangers. Now this has been renamed Kassl Bragor and is the seat of the Great Maw’s power.
Further up river the village of Vergashyk sat in the foothills of the Vergal Mountains, home to shepherds and farmers. Now its populace is enslaved and its livestock slaughtered to feed the hungry orges and urrok that occupy the once peaceful village.
The villages of Luskandir and Karashyk are found on the eastern bank of the Shushoken River, a wide and meandering waterway that has its source in the mountains by Three Peaks Hold. Frontier settlements, they were home to trappers, prospectors and loggers mainly, with a small militia to protect them from bandits, gnolls and the like, though there were no match for the rampaging ogres and urrok that Bragor sent their way.
While most of the population of the villages and capital city have been enslaved, now working to rebuild damaged defences, forge new arms and armour for the ogre army, small groups of resistance fighters hide in the hills and woodlands around the fringes of Bragor’s conquered territory.
Current Intrigues
Kassl Bragor has been fortified and is the seat of power for the Great Maw, Bragor the Tyrant King. He rules the Tyrrany with an iron fist, yet also with guile and wisdom seldom seen in an ogre. While many of his lieutenants are brutal ogres, more interested in gorging themselves on ale and the serving maids that fetch it for them, some in service to Bragor are not there to provide muscle alone.
It is rumoured that the Great Maw takes guidance from a goblin seer, a small hooded figure that stands at his left hand (the right being reserved for his chief executioner) whispering in his ear, divulging his enemies weaknesses while he praises the ogres great strength and wisdom.
As well as a great many ogres, Bragor also commands large contingent of mercenary urrok warriors, their tribal rivalries momentarily put on hold while there are humans to kill. There is talk among this band of urrok however, of a call to arms by a champion of Merregoth, something that may well test the urrok’s sense of honour as well as the ogre’s ability to keep his mercenaries in check.
Recently brought to the attention of Bragor, are recent thefts of weapons and armour from old militia barracks. While these are of no use to the ogres themselves, being too small for them to wield, it points to a concerted effort to arm a resistance movement against the Tyranny, something that Bragor will not tolerate. Anyone found with militia issue weapons and armour, who does not belong to the Tyranny’s army are executed without exception.
Forces loyal to the Tyranny have reported strange goings on in and around woodlands, from strange ‘icons’ being left to guards disappearing in the night. This is especially frequent when urrok or goblins have been sent to collect wood for fires or for reinforcing defences around villages.
