SESSION FOUR - From the Shadows

Inside the warehouse, Pvt Phillip’s flashlight illuminates shelves laden with boxes of goods, flooring covered with scattered wrapping, debris and pools of rainwater. In the central aisle, around three quarters of the way into the warehouse there appears to be an abandoned battery powered forklift. The rain hammers loudly on the corrugated metal roof and pours in through the hole in the roof.

The trio slowly advance, searching aisle by aisle to see if there was any sign of the killer of the unfortunate bodies outside. 

After clearing the first set of shelving, Layla hears a sound coming from further back in the warehouse; something was moving around. Pvt Phillips appears to be very jumpy and Layla has to calm him down a few times as sounds of movement continue near the back of the warehouse. Bill comes up with the idea of using the forklift and makes a break for it, and by good fortune (a lucky die roll) the battery has some power. Bill and Layla get on the forklift and start to manoeuvre it around the warehouse. 

Coming around one of the aisles, there is a sound of movement on one of the shelves and then suddenly a sofa (complete with plastic wrapping) falls off the shelf onto the floor and there is a blur of movement, and something picks up Pvt Phillips and he shouts for help, blood spurting from a wound in his shoulder.

There then follows one of those moments akin to the infamous “Han shot first” scene. First it looked like Bill was going to be very brave and try to pull the young marine from the grasp of whatever had him in mid-air, but then he pulled the pin from one of the grenades in his battle dress and reversed the forklift away as quickly as possible, just getting him and Layla out of the dangerous blast area. Partly protected by the lifting gear of the battery powered vehicle, they were however showered in the remains of the unfortunate soldier. 

When the dust (and blood spray) settled, the creature was nowhere to be seen, though the sound of rending metal a moment later led the pair to a trail of luminescent blood and a hole in the side of the warehouse. They also discovered what appeared to be a cocoon of some sort suspended in amongst the large industrial shelving. Layla took some samples of this and some of the blood, hoping to find somewhere to take a look at it and determine where it came from.
